Why Webinars?

Webinars are used to leverage time and resources to effectively reach and teach more people, businesses and organizations. See below for ways to apply webinars in Business , Education and Non-Profit Organizations .

What is a webinar?

A webinar is a course that is delivered only over the web or via phone and web together. They require a technology interface (computer, handheld device, software platform or external vendor) to deliver. They can be as basic as a lecture with PowerPoint slides or as complex as live group slide creation, web chat, lecture, online polling and more - all in one session.

What is the difference between a teleseminar and a webinar?

These terms (as well as ‘teleconference’) are often used interchangeably. Technically, teleseminars and teleconferences are delivered over the telephone without the use of a web interface. Webinars are delivered only over the web or via web and telephone.

One of the advantages of using the web over the phone only is that the web allows more control over the graphics used. The moderator/speaker can forward the slides themselves rather than having participants flip through a printed version on their own. The web can be more interactive, though not always. It is also visually stimulating and graphics can reinforce the teaching you are doing.

When speaking of teleseminars or teleconferences, the use of “seminar” connotes learning and training versus “conference” which may just be a virtual meeting and discussion and not include learning or training components at all.

At Lisa Chapman Learning, we often use the terms teleseminar and webinar interchangeably. Because the focus of our work is virtual training/teaching/learning, we do not use the term teleconference.
